What are some common mistakes made in the event world?2026-06-08T08:28:34+00:00
Leaving your Christmas entertainment bookings until the last few weeks of November. All the decent talent and event professionals are all booked up for Christmas by July/August time.
Not having decent sound and lighting. The two most important things for running a successful event is being seen and being heard. 80% of the time the in-house built in venue sound system is not good enough.
The wrong timings for your entertainment, speeches, food, music or awards. There is a correct time to start your dance band or DJ.  There is a correct time to hold your live auction, company awards, speeches.  There is a good and bad time for fundraising, playing corporate videos and live comedy acts.  We can advise what goes where.
Organising your event on the same day as a major event that will affect attendance, ticket sales or availability. Don’t book your event on FA Cup, Champions League or World Cup final day.  Don’t book your party in a Wembley Hotel when Taylor Swift is playing next-door or in Edinburgh when the Fringe is taking place.
Many times the wrong venue is booked for a certain event.  The room layout is wrong, the audience have bad sight-lines, meaning they have obstructed views of the main event area, the room dedicated for the meet and greet or drinks reception is too small, no parking, no local hotel rooms, bad transport links, no wifi or phone signal, sound limiters, early curfews, no external entertainment allowed to be booked, meaning you have to use their own trusted list of suppliers, no load in bay for trucks and lorries needing to park up close by to deliver the production or even booking a venue that has another event the same day next-door.
Our favourite was a client who booked a juggler and the venue had very low ceilings, or the time a caricaturist turned up to draw everyone and it was a masquerade ball.
What is a common hurdle when organising an event?2026-06-08T08:24:21+00:00

We find that committee’s, internal meetings and decision making ideas with us not present in the room are a big problem. After 30 years in the industry we will probably have an answer, recommendation or solution for your problem straight away. We can happily help with budget meetings, schedules, branding, marketing ideas, room design and layout. When we get told our ideas won’t work when we aren’t even in the discussions or meetings then that can be problematic.

What is a show producer?2026-06-08T08:22:51+00:00

A show producer manages the practical, financial, and logistical creation of a live event, or production. They act as the bridge between the creative vision and the business reality, handling budgets, hiring crew, staffing, deliveries, overseeing schedules, and ensuring the final product is delivered on time.  On the day of the event the show producer often takes on the role of an event show caller working closely with the production team, the talent and the event host.

We think our event might be too big for you, why should we hire you?2026-06-08T08:22:28+00:00

We have been a part of some of the biggest events in the world.  When you have been involved in events with Ruler of Dubai, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, The King of Sweden, The British Prime Minister, Royal Ascot, The Sandhurst Commissioning Ball, Wimbledon Tennis, FA Cup Final, The Ryder Cup, The Brits, The BAFTA’s, The X Factor, Monaco Grand Prix, The Prince’s Trust, The Olympic Games, The Ashes and so many live touring shows, then nothing really fazes you.  Our AV team at SLV Productions can provide the sound and lighting for a local comedy night all the way up to the production for the Brit Awards at the O2 Arena.

Are you happy to sign NDA’s (Non-Disclosure Agreement)?2026-06-08T08:21:59+00:00

We are sent many, but we must know who we are working for and the reason for the NDA before we sign it.  We will never turn up to an event not knowing what or who the event is for.

You started out Magic 4 Events Ltd just booking out magic acts, do you still book them out?2026-06-08T08:21:40+00:00

Yes we do.  Magicians were 100% of our business up until about 2012 and then slowly we started to make contact with everyone else in the event industry. We know the best and busiest magicians in the world, we still book them out all year around. That’s one act we know inside out, you won’t find better.

Where are you based?2026-06-08T08:21:10+00:00

We are based 40 minutes south of London.  If you ever need a face to face meeting then get in touch. We book acts from all over the world, but most of our acts are UK based.

What is the hardest match up?2026-06-08T08:20:52+00:00

Good question.  It’s explaining the difference of act to suit each booker for the various events.  If someone wants to book a comedian then we need to find out what type of humour would suit their audience.  There is a big difference between Jimmy Carr, Jo Brand, Jason Mansford, Frankie Boyle and Ricky Gervais. The same goes for music acts.  We receive the email “can we book a band please”.  There is a big difference between Adele and Metallica. The same with an event host.  Can they hold the attention of a room, do they need to be funny, think on their feet, work in a team, read an autocue, be scripted, host an auction or interview the guest speaker.  Making the right fit is down to us and also the client.

What are the most popular events that you have helped organise over the last 5 years?2026-06-08T08:20:22+00:00

Our recent diary has been – 35% charity events – 25% sporting events – 20% corporate award dinners – 10% weddings – 5% private parties – 5% theatre tours – but we cater for so many types of events.

What do you provide for a charity event?2026-06-08T08:20:03+00:00

All charity events are different.  Some raise a few thousand and some raise over £1 million. We like to advise on the running order, the way you fundraise, advice on raffles, prize draws, games, quizzes, auctions, guest speakers, celebrities to help sell tickets and probably most importantly who your host and auctioneer are. We also have brilliant contacts for auction items.

Who are some of the most famous people you have seen booked for events?2026-06-08T08:19:33+00:00

We have been at weddings, corporate functions, birthday parties, charity and private events where the live act has been – Beyonce, Take That, Lionel Richie, 50 Cent, Snoop Dog, Madness, Michael Bublé, Tom Jones, Paul Anke, Kasabian, Kylie, Girls Aloud, Leona Lewis, Craig David, Raye, JLS, Stereophonics, Robbie Williams and Lewis Capaldi to name a few.
